sleep as nature intended
Sleep refreshes us like nothing else. It can be occasionally elusive, almost always comforting and definitely essential to our survival. And although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely give it a moment’s notice…until we can’t sleep. Then we think about it to the point of obsession. For millions of people, the consequences of a poor night’s sleep – higher stress, increased mistakes, difficulty concentrating – are everyday occurrences. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Youtheory Sleep offers the possibility of quicker, deeper and more refreshing sleep.* This fast-acting drink mix provides broad-spectrum support for occasional sleeplessness.* Youtheory’s natural sleep-aid features relaxing amino acids, calming magnesium and a “physiological dose” of melatonin (to replicate the level normally produced by the body each night).*

L-glycine is a naturally sweet-tasting amino acid that may be the next great natural sleep-aid nutrient. L-glycine is ubiquitous in the human body and serves a critical role in the central nervous system (where it acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter…calming overactive brain neurons). Studies show that a single nighttime dose of 3,000 mg (3 g) of L-glycine can help ameliorate the “next day” symptoms of sleep deprivation – improving overall sleep satisfaction and decreasing daytime sleepiness and cognitive impairment.*
melatonin: less is more add remove
It’s time to rethink how we use supplemental melatonin. So rather than giving you an excessively large dose of melatonin (3mg or higher), we opted for a microdose of melatonin (0.3 mg) instead. This super small quantity replicates the amount normally produced by the body each night: 0.075-0.3mg. It’s notable that 3mg of melatonin (which is considered the norm in retail stores) is somewhere between 10-40x higher than the normal physiological quantity. Therefore, 3mg of melatonin may be considered a “pharmacological dose” due to its size and drug-like effect: heavy sedation. Here at youtheory, we believe that individuals should refrain from using a “pharmacological dose” for more than three consecutive nights (as a rule of thumb) and instead opt for a more natural sleep aid.

“Pharmacological dosing” can lead to a number of issues, including: dependency (via up-regulation of brain receptors and down-regulation of internal melatonin production), tolerance (leading to a loss of response over time, especially frequent waking during the night), and a “delayed phase-shift” in the circadian rhythms. When you have excessive melatonin still in your system upon waking in the morning, it can shift your circadian rhythms so that your bedtime and wake time move later into the day (i.e.,it “delays” the sleep/wake cycle, which is the opposite of what most individuals are aiming for). The primary goal of melatonin supplementation should be to sync your internal clock and to advance (not delay) your endogenous melatonin rhythm so that you feel more tired earlier in the evening.* The physiological dose accomplishes this and is ideal for extended use as a natural sleep aid.*
